Orthodox

Russian Orthodox Church in Samarkand

About 5% of the country's population belong to the Orthodox Church, most of them Russian . Of the Orthodox churches in Uzbekistan, only the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church are officially recognized (as of 2008). The Russian Orthodox Church in Uzbekistan, headed by an archbishop , belongs to the territory of the Tashkent eparchy and Central Asia . This was created in 1871 and also includes Tajikistan , Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan . There are Russian Orthodox cathedrals in Tashkent and Samarkand. Uzbekistan has 13 Russian Orthodox churches.
