Christian Dietrich Grabbe Prize
The Christian Dietrich Grabbe price is - since 1994 in memory of the native of Detmold - with an interruption from 2004 to 2014 playwright Christian Dietrich Grabbe from the town of Detmold of and Grabbe Society in conjunction with the National Association Lippe awarded.
The prize is awarded every three years for “a new dramatic work in German that represents an artistically innovative achievement”. The prize is endowed with a cash amount of 5000 euros. There is also the option of a performance of the award-winning works at the Landestheater in Detmold . “The promotion of young artists” is expressly sought. Since 2013, the Detmold State Theater has been raising the necessary financial resources for prize money and material costs. In 2017, the prize was divided into two sponsorship awards.
The necessary specialist jury is appointed by the Grabbe Society and the Detmold State Theater in close cooperation. It comprises four people, in addition to the president of the Grabbe Society, the artistic director of the Detmold State Theater or his representative, a playwright and a theater critic. If there is a lack of votes, the chairman has the casting vote. The chairman of the jury usually gives the laudation at the ceremony . The winner is expected to give a short speech on the contemporary situation of theater and drama.
