Christian Friedrich Kahnt

Christian Friedrich Kahnt (born May 10, 1823 in Leipzig ; † June 5, 1897 in ibid) was a German music publisher , editor and namesake for the publishing house he founded .

Life

In 1851 Christian Friedrich Kahnt founded the CF Kahnt publishing house, which operated under his name until the 20th century . Through this music publisher he published the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik (NZfM) from 1857 onwards . After the death of the music critic and scholar Franz Brendel in 1868, Kahnt also acted nominally as editor of the magazine.

Kahnt himself published a number of important works, including by Franz Liszt , as well as the opera The Barber of Baghdad by Peter Cornelius .

In 1880 Oskar Schwalm acquired the Leipziger Verlag, which then operated as CF Kahnt Nachf. And later published other important works.
