Christian Hlade

Christian Hlade (born July 1, 1964 in Graz ) is an Austrian entrepreneur and author .

Life

Christian Hlade studied architecture at TU Graz . Extensive trekking trips during his studies took him to the Himalayan region of Ladakh, among others . As a diploma thesis for his architecture studies, he designed a "village school in Ladakh". In 1994 Hlade founded the association "Friends of Lingshed", which took over sponsorships and teachers' fees to support the education of children in the village of Lingshed .

In 2000, Hlade organized and directed the construction of the school he designed in Lingshed. To finance his stay, he founded the travel company Weltweitwandern , which has since developed into a leading provider of hiking and trekking trips in Austria with regard to sustainable tourism and social responsibility.

After the earthquake in Nepal in 2015 , in which a children's home near Kathmandu supported by Weltweitwandern was destroyed, Hlade founded the association “Weltweitwandern hilft!”, Which used donations to rebuild the children's home. “Worldwide hiking works!” Supports further education and empowerment projects in Nepal and Morocco as well as integration projects in Austria.

In 2016 Christian Hlade's first book “Hiking works. Going your own way & making life's dreams come true ” published by Braumüller, a publisher in Vienna . The book consists of an autobiographical section and an advisory section on travel and life topics. In 2019 "The Big Book of Hiking" followed with a foreword by mountaineer Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner .

Awards

  • In 2014 Christian Hlade was named one of the "Styrians of the Decade" by the readers of the Styrian daily newspaper Kleine Zeitung for his social commitment and his entrepreneurial achievements.
  • In 2015 he received the Styrian Josef Krainer Prize for social commitment.
