Christian Antonsen Horne (born October 20, 1838 in Romedal (today Stange ), † October 26, 1912 in Romedal) was a Norwegian teacher for agriculture and politician of the Venstre party .

His parents were the farmer married couple, Anton Hansen Horne (1804-1860) and Helene Halvorsdotter from Grimset in Løten (1810-1853). His first marriage was Karen Marie Gløersen in 1862, but she died in the same year. She was the daughter of the provost Christian August Gløersen and his wife Marie Randers. In his second marriage he married Marit Paulsdotter Romundgard from Blessom i Vågå (1851-1950).

Horne grew up in his native Romedal. He was the third child of eight siblings. He received his training at the "Jønsberg landbruksskule" (Jønsberg Agricultural School). From 1867 he was a teacher at the adult education center on the Romundgård estate in Sel, which he founded with Christopher Bruun that year . It was there that he met his future second wife. His sister Lina was also a teacher there from the beginning. From 1871 to 1873 he was a teacher in Jønsberg (today also a district of Stange). The agricultural school “Jønsberg vidergående skole” (Jønsberg secondary school) still exists there today.

In 1875 the couple bought the Nordigard Blessom farm in Vågå. There he introduced new methods of agriculture. So he developed specially cultivated pastures, special agricultural implements, for example horse-drawn hay rakes, hay wagons and new types of plows. He owned a hydro-powered threshing machine, as well as a hydro-powered saw and mill. On the estate he also taught students interested in agriculture.

From 1884 to 1886 he was the mayor of Vågå and had many other sideline jobs for the Venstre party, of which he belonged. In 1883 he was the deputy delegate in Storting .

In 1887 the family moved to Romedal, where they ran the “Vestre Gollersrud” farm for ten years. Then she sold the farm and bought a house in Vågå, where Horne lived until his death.

During his time as a teacher, Horne also wrote down folk dances that are still played today.

The couple had five children:

  1. Åsmund (1873-1934), colonel, farmer 1919-1934.
  2. Thor (1876-1901)
  3. Helga Marie (1880-1885)
  4. Harald (1884–1957), lawyer and farmer 1934–1957
  5. Helga Marie (* 1887) teacher at the "Aars og Voss skole", a higher private school in Christiania .

The main importance of Christian Horne lies in his collaboration with Christopher Bruun on the introduction of the adult education center in Norway.
