Christian Koenig (legal scholar)

Christian Koenig (born March 5, 1961 in Münster ) is a German law scholar and professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Bonn .

Life

After graduating from high school, Koenig studied law from 1980 to 1985 at the Free University of Berlin and at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . In 1985 he passed the first state examination in law and in 1986 received a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics (LSE).

After his doctorate as Dr. iur. in 1988, he passed the Second State Examination in 1991. He then worked briefly in an international law firm. He completed his habilitation in 1993 at the Philipps University of Marburg. In 1993 and 1994 he held professorships at the University of Hamburg and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . In 1995 he became a full professor in the Law Faculty of the Philipps University of Marburg , before taking up his position as a full professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in 1999.

Koenig has been Director of the Center for European Integration Research (ZEI) since April 1, 1999 .

Koenig's teaching focuses include the law of the EU internal market, general administrative law, economic administrative law, EU competition law and the regulatory law of network economies. Koenig heads the English-language interdisciplinary course Master of European Regulation of Network Industries (MERNI).

His publications, research projects and expert activities focus on the law of the EU internal market, EU competition law, in particular state aid and public procurement law, infrastructure funding law, telecommunications law, postal law, energy law, gaming law as well as health and pharmaceutical law . Complex regulatory issues are often at the center of the expertise, which above all requires an interdisciplinary understanding of related economic disciplines.

In the area of ​​infrastructure funding, Koenig has supported numerous large-scale projects such as several multifunctional soccer arenas, race tracks, concert and multi-purpose halls and pipeline infrastructures in relation to EU subsidies and procurement law.

Koenig often appears as an attorney before the European Court of Justice and the General Court of the European Union .
