Christian Kurts (born November 27, 1964 in Helmstedt ) is a German university professor, immunologist and nephrologist .

Life and accomplishments

Christian Kurts studied medicine and physics at the University of Göttingen from 1985 to 1991 . There he received his doctorate in medicine in 1991 . From November 1991 to March 1995 and from May 1998 to September 2000 he worked as an assistant doctor and research assistant in internal medicine and nephrology at the Hannover Medical School . From April 1995 to March 1998 he spent a three-year research stay at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research (WEHI) in Melbourne , Australia with Jacques Miller , where he researched antigen cross-presentation and autoimmunity . From October 2000 to March 2003, as head of a junior research group for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at the Aachen University Hospital, he carried out fundamental research on dendritic cells in the kidney and completed further training in the field of nephrology in internal medicine . In 2002 he was a visiting researcher at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology (LIAI), San Diego , USA . In 2003 Kurts was appointed to a professorship for molecular immunology at the University Clinic Bonn of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and six years later director at the institutes for molecular medicine and experimental immunology there. He deals scientifically with the cell biology and dynamics of cross-presentation, immune tolerance and the function of dendritic cells in various organs, especially the urogenital tract.
