Christian Leitz

Christian Leitz (born August 7, 1960 in Borghorst , Westphalia ) is a German Egyptologist .

Leitz studied Egyptology, Assyriology and Coptic Studies in Marburg and Göttingen . In 1989 he received his doctorate from the University of Göttingen. In 1993 he was at the University of Cologne habilitation , where he remained until 1998, one from 1993 Heisenberg Fellowship from the DFG held. From 1999 to 2003 he headed the project " Lexicon of Egyptian Gods and Designations of Gods " at the Seminar for Egyptology in Cologne . Since April 1, 2004, he has been a full professor of Egyptology at the University of Tübingen . During this time he was also a visiting professor, in January / February 2007 at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, in November 2009 at the Collège de France in Paris and in March / April 2013 at the University of Cairo .

His largest research project is currently the Athribis project . The aim is the complete epigraphic , historical and material-technological research, conservation and publication of the great temple of Athribis , which was consecrated as child god to the god Min - Re , his wife Repit and their son Kolanthes . The excavation site is located near the central Egyptian city of Sohag .
