Christian Lower
Christian Lower (born January 7, 1740 in Tulpehocken , Berks County , Province of Pennsylvania , † December 19, 1806 ibid) was an American politician . In 1805 and 1806 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Christian Lower grew up during the British colonial era. He attended the public schools in his home country and then worked as a blacksmith. He later became the owner of an iron foundry. At times he took part in various functions in the War of Independence and at the same time embarked on a political career. Between 1777 and 1779 he was a county councilor in Berks County. From 1783 to 1796 he sat several times as a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania . Between 1797 and 1804 he was a member of the State Senate .
Lower became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . In the congressional elections of 1804 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Joseph Hiester on March 4, 1805 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on December 19, 1806.
