Christian Maaß (born July 10, 1972 in Hamburg ) is a German politician of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Hamburg (formerly GAL). From 2008 to November 2010 he was State Councilor in the Department for Urban Development and the Environment .

Life

Christian Maaß grew up in the Hamburg district of Altona . During his school days at the Corveystraße high school , he traveled to the USA for an academic year . He then studied law at the universities in Hamburg and Geneva . At the University of Hamburg he specialized in environmental law as a research assistant .

After his time as State Councilor, he joined the Hamburg Institute as a partner, a consulting and research company in the field of sustainable energies.

He is honorary editor of the "Zeitschrift für Umweltrecht" and chairman of the association "Neue Energie Hamburg e.V."

politics

Maaß came to the GAL in 1994 through work in the AStA and the academic self-administration of the University of Hamburg. From 1997 to May 2002 he was the spokesman for the State Conservation Committee.

From October 2001 he was a member of the Hamburg parliament and deputy chairman of the GAL parliamentary group. He was Chairman of the Environment Committee and also a permanent representative on the Legal, Urban Development and Sports Committee. For the GAL parliamentary group he was a specialist spokesman for the environment and consumer protection. In the 17th electoral term he was also a member of the parliamentary committee of inquiry "Schwarzer Filz".

Since May 8, 2008, Maaß was State Councilor for the Environment in the Authority for Urban Development and Environment of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and therefore had to resign from his mandate. With the end of the black-green coalition in November 2010, Maaß lost his role as State Councilor.
