Christian "Bob" Maly (born January 20, 1975 in Bochum ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper who most recently worked as the goalkeeping coach of the second team at VfL Bochum .

Player career

In his youth, Maly played at SV Waldesrand Linden and VfB Linden .

After moving to the then Bundesliga club SG Wattenscheid 09 , he first played from 1994 to 1996 for its amateur team in the Regionalliga West / Südwest. After the relegation of the first team, Maly moved up to the squad under coach Jupp Tenhagen , which became regional league champions in 1996/97 . In the 1997/98 season he was in the SGW second division squad, but was not used behind regular goalkeeper Peter Martin . From summer 1999 he played at SC Paderborn 07 . After moving to SV Borussia Wuppertal in the summer of 2001 , he joined city rivals Wuppertaler SV just one year later . After two years and a promotion to the regional league with the WSV, the latter merged with SV Borussia to form Wuppertaler SV Borussia , where Maly played until the end of his career after the 2009/10 season.

Due to a knee injury ( patellar tendon rupture ), his last season was ended prematurely on the penultimate matchday in the last home game against FC Carl Zeiss Jena . It was initially unclear whether he would be able to continue his career afterwards, since 2011 he has been a sports invalid. Christian Maly then began vocational training as an educator in 2012.

His greatest success was his participation in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup with Wuppertaler SV Borussia in the 2007/08 season against FC Bayern Munich . Previously, the WSV defeated the second division Erzgebirge Aue 5: 4 in the first main round , with Maly holding three penalties , and in the second main round the Bundesliga club Hertha BSC 2: 0.

Maly is married and has two children.
