Christian Matthias Adler (born May 8, 1787 in Triesdorf , † March 4, 1850 in Munich ) was a German porcelain painter .

Christian Matthias Adler was a son of Johann Georg Adler and Maria Barbara Wurm from Sinn. His father was a Triesdorf groom and died in 1828.

Adler lived in England for a long time and moved to Ansbach in 1804 , where he learned from the court painter Friedrich Gotthard Naumann . From 1808 he worked as a porcelain painter. In 1811 he went to Munich and probably soon worked for the porcelain manufacturer Nymphenburg there . From 1813 to 1815 he studied fine arts at the Munich Academy . From 1816 to 1835 he worked as a painting supervisor for the Nymphenburg manufactory. Under the direction of Friedrich von Gärtner , he took over the " history painting " in 1822 .

Adler is classified as the actual founder of the Munich School of Porcelain Painting. Most of his works were porcelain plate paintings, for which he copied masterpieces from the Alte Pinakothek for Ludwig I from 1827 onwards . He also designed portrait mugs and magnificent vases.

Adler married Catharina Josepha on January 18, 1818 in Munich, with whom he had three sons and three daughters. Her father was the chancellery Joseph Bach.
