Christian Mengelt

Christian Mengelt (* 1938 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss graphic artist , type designer and teacher.

Life

Christian Mengelt did an apprenticeship from 1954 to 1959 and worked as a sign painter in St. Gallen and Zurich . He then completed an apprenticeship as a graphic designer at the Basel School of Design . Mengelt has been working as a freelance graphic and font designer since 1964. He worked with design and advertising agencies such as GGK Basel and Mendell & Oberer Munich, was a partner in the Type Design Team'77 and a member of ATypI . From 1972 to 2001 he taught at the Basel School of Design in the field of graphics, drawing and font design . From 1986 he headed the graphics class; In 1990 he became head of department. He also taught as a visiting professor at various design schools in Europe, the USA and Mexico.

Mengelt has been working as a freelance artist since 2001. He showed his works in the fields of printmaking and abstract painting at studio and work exhibitions, especially in the Basel and Lucerne region. He has lived and worked in Blauen , Baselland , since 1987 .
