On July 7, 1879, his son Knud Johan Victor (1879–1933) was born, who would later become one of the most important Greenlanders as a polar explorer. Other children from the marriage were Vilhelmine Regine (1881–1974) and Christian Ludvig (1883–1914). After returning to Denmark, he became a pastor in Lynge Sogn and Uggeløse Sogn . In 1904 he became a lecturer and ministerial advisor.
