Christian Schappler

Christian Gottfried Schappler , also: Schapler , (born October 27, 1877 in Vandans ; † October 21, 1961 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ), game warden and farmer. From 1934 to 1938 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Schappler attended the four-class elementary school in Vandans and did his military service in Innsbruck in 1898. He worked professionally in his parents' farm and also learned the craft of carpenter and was employed as a woodcutter. Between 1913 and 1917 he worked as a postman in Vandans. During the First World War in 1917 he served six weeks as a rifleman at the front in South Tyrol. He then worked as an alpine herder and from 1919 to 1941 was employed as a game warden, district and head hunter. He then worked as a farmer from 1941 to 1945 during World War II.

Politics and functions

Schappler was a member of the Christian Social Party and acted as chairman of the local group Vandans. He worked from 1917 to 1931 as a member of the local council of Vandans and was also a member of the local council from 1927 to 1931. Furthermore, he worked from 1931 to 1938 as community leader of the community of Vandans. In 1934 he was appointed as a representative of the profession of agriculture and forestry by the Vorarlberg governor as a member of the state parliament and subsequently belonged to the state parliament during the period of the corporate state and Austrofascism from November 14, 1934 until the annexation of Austria on March 12, 1938 on. After the Second World War, Schappler became a member of the newly founded Austrian People's Party and acted as chairman of the local group Vandans. He was also again from 1945 to 1947 mayor of Vandans.

Schappler was also a co-founder of the Vandans Harmoniemusik and a member of the Vandans Church Choir. He was also involved as a member of the Vandans Voluntary Fire Brigade and was a member and subsequently chairman of the Vandans Parish Council. He was also a member and councilor of the Vorarlberg Farmers 'Chamber and a member of the regional farmers' council.

Private

Schappler was born as the son of the farmer, community leader and member of the state parliament Gottfried Schappler (1840-1921) and his wife Maria Katharina Bitschnau (1847-1933). He married Maria Rosina Schoder (1874–1950) on November 7, 1910 and had a daughter in 1915.
