Christian Steinmetz (born June 28, 1882 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † June 11, 1963 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) was an American basketball player.
Christian Steinmetz was the most successful basketball player in college basketball before the First World War . After his successful stint on the South Division High School basketball team, he only played three years for the University of Wisconsin – Madison , but scored 950 points in his 40 games. In the 1904/05 season he managed to achieve 462 of the 681 points of his team, which he could post 23 points more than all opposing teams combined.
In 1961, Steinmetz was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame . He died on June 11, 1963 at the age of 80.
