Christian Stoess

Christian Stoess (born February 22, 1959 ) is a German numismatist .

Stoess studied with Peter Berghaus at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he obtained a master's degree . Various activities at museums, at exhibitions and in the context of coin discovery projects followed. In 1988 he was appointed to Germany's oldest coin dealer Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. Employed in Frankfurt am Main. In the last years of his activity there he held the position of an authorized signatory . In June 2016, Stoess became a member of the Medieval and Early Modern Period collections at the Münzkabinett of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin .

Stoess has been President of the Society for International Monetary History and publisher of the Monetary News since 1992 . In 2008 he was appointed to the board of the Numismatic Commission of the Federal Republic of Germany as a representative for the Society for International Monetary History and is its treasurer.

In addition to technical knowledge in the areas of medieval and early modern numismatics, Stoess is a specialist in the field of coin database management and the scientific digitization of holdings. For example, he was responsible for digitization projects such as the website of the Numismatic Commission.
