Christian Walter (lawyer)

Christian Walter (* 1966 ) is a German lawyer and professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Life

Walter began studying law in 1987 at the University of Würzburg , which he completed after a study visit to the University of Geneva in 1993 by taking the first state examination in law at the University of Heidelberg . He then worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. In 1995 he completed his doctorate with Jochen Abraham Frowein. jur. from. For this work he received the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society and the Ruprecht Karls Prize of the University of Heidelberg in 1996 . After his second state examination, Walter spent a year doing research at the University of Montpellier and the Harvard Law School . After his return he worked as a research assistant for the judges at the Federal Constitutional Court Paul Kirchhof and Udo di Fabio . From 2000 to 2004 Walter lectured at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg. In February 2004 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg and received the venia legendi for the subjects German and foreign public law, international law, European law and state church law.

In the summer semester of 2004 Walter held a chair at the University of Frankfurt am Main , and in the following winter semester a chair at the University of Jena . In December 2004 he was appointed full professor in Jena. In October 2005 Walter moved to the University of Münster . In the summer semester 2010 he turned down an offer from the University of Tübingen , but in the summer semester 2011 he accepted the chair in public law and international law from the University of Munich , which he has held since then. In 2019 Walter was elected to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
