Christian Windler

Christian Windler-Dirisio (born April 26, 1960 in Basel ) is a Swiss historian .

Life

After matriculation at school Münchenstein in Basel , Christian Windler studied 1979-1985 General History of the Middle Ages and the modern era, French linguistics and French literature at the Universities of Basel , Geneva and Toulouse . From 1987 to 1995 Windler was a research assistant at the History Department of the University of Basel , where he wrote a dissertation on local elites, seigneurial nobility and reform absolutism in Spain (1760-1808) in 1990 . The example of Lower Andalusia received a doctorate . From 1992 to 1998 he worked on the habilitation project La diplomatie comme expérience de l'Autre: consuls français au Maghreb (1700–1840) .

From 2000 to 2004 Windler held a C3 professorship for the history of Romanesque Western Europe at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . Since 2004 he has been teaching as a full professor for modern history at the University of Bern .

His main research interests are French and Spanish history of the early modern period and the early 19th century.
