Doue-la-Fontaine is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Doue-en-Anjou with 7,552 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire . The inhabitants are called Douessins .

Doué-la-Fontaine is located in the Saumurois countryside, in the heart of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park . Doué-la-Fontaine is located in the Anjou wine region .
The municipality of Doué-la-Fontaine was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Louresse-Rochemenier in the north and northwest, Dénezé-sous-Doué in the north, Forges in the northeast, Saint-Georges-sur-Layon in the east, Brossay in the southeast, Vauldenay and Les Verchers -sur-Layon in the south, Concourson-sur-Layon in the southwest and Montfort in the west.
history
Theodoadus and Thedwat as well as similar designations had been used as the name of the place in 814 and 835; In 847 the place was first run as Doadum . The current place name Doué-la-Fontaine was adopted in 1893 and officially anchored in 1933. In 1024 the castle of Doué was given to the Count of Anjou.
In 1964 the communities of Douces and Soulanger were incorporated.
The municipality of Doué-la-Fontaine became the new municipality of Doué-en-Anjou on December 30, 2016 with Brigné , Concourson-sur-Layon , Forges , Meigné , Montfort , Saint-Georges-sur-Layon and Les Verchers-sur-Layon united. It belonged to the Arrondissement of Saumur and was the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Doué-la-Fontaine .
Attractions
Of particular historical importance is the motte (so-called fixed house ) near Doué-la-Fontaine, which was built in the 10th and 11th centuries. It has been a monument historique since 1973 . It is doubtful whether it is the oldest stone castle complex.
