Christian Zehnder (musician)
Christian Zehnder (* 1961 in Zurich ) is a Swiss singer and composer.
Life
Christian Zehnder was born in Zurich, but has lived and worked in Basel for 30 years . He completed his jazz studies as a guitarist, the classical study in singing (baritone), a. a. with Raphael Laback. This was followed by further training in overtone singing with Tokne Nonaka and body voice techniques according to Alfred Wolfsohn with Daniel Prieto. He dealt with the non-verbal expression of the human voice as well as the yodelling forms of communication, global yodeling. Zehnder is regarded in specialist circles as one of the most creative and innovative minds in this scene.
In 1996, together with the wind player Balthasar Streiff , he initiated the internationally renowned Duo Stimmhorn , which has achieved cult status , with whom he has received several awards and has made numerous CDs, films and musical theater. Concert tours around the world, collaboration with Huun-Huur-Tu , the African overtone choir Noquolnquo, Mercan Dede and others. a. m. followed. Zehnder also realizes projects as a drama musician, director and composer for the theater (Theater Basel, Salzburg Festival, Mannheim, Lucerne, Gorki Theater Berlin and others). He also works on composition assignments for film, television, World EXPO and radio, as well as teaching assignments for overtone singing, vocal technique and choir at home and abroad. He is visiting professor at the Oslo Conservatory and the Basel Academy of Music.
With the Zehnder Kraah Trio, he produced his first solo CD in 2008 with guests such as Christoph Marthaler , Noldi Alder , Don Li , Anton Bruhin and the Casal Quartet , with whom he also worked with the Swiss composer Fortunat Frölich in the weather light project in chamber music . new music has advanced. On the occasion of the Munich Biennale 2010, Zehnder sang one of the leading roles in the contemporary opera Amazonas. In 2012 he founded a new trio with John Wolf Brennan and Arkady Shilkloper . In addition to his diverse music projects between jazz, new alpine and contemporary music, Christian Zehnder is now again increasingly active as a director & composer in drama and music theater, such as B. recently with the creation oops, wrong planet! at the Theater Basel .
