Voice horn (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stimmhorn was a Swiss band. Their style could be described as experimental ethno music or imaginary folklore .

The band was founded in 1996 by Balthasar Streiff and Christian Zehnder . The band name referred to the music of the band, which mainly consisted of the voice of Christian Zehnder and various horn sounds by Balthasar Streiff. The instrumentation and technology of the band was very diverse. In addition to "normal" singing, Christian Zehnder also masters overtone singing and yodelling and plays the instruments rocking accordion , bandoneon , bandurria , organ pipes , hang and others. In addition to singing, Balthasar Streiff plays the alphorn , double alphorn , alpofon (an instrument he developed himself), Büchel , cornet , baroque trumpet , zinc , tuba and goat horn .

In addition, the duo increasingly worked with guest musicians, for example the overtone singing group Huun-Huur-Tu from Tuwa or Tomek Kolczyński (kold electronics) on their last album Igloo and in the production of Faust II .

The duo also appeared (alongside Noldi Alder and Erika Stucky ) in the film Heimatklänge by Stefan Schwietert (D, CH, A, 2007), in which Christian Zehnder talks about his artistic roots: I've always hated yodelling.

Zehnder and Streiff performed for the last time as the duo "Stimmhorn" in November 2009.
