Apen took his citizenship oath in Bremen in 1591 . He became known historically for his 1594 map of the Weser and that of the four Gohen von Bremen from 1603. He is also known for his picture of the Battle of Drakenburg , which took place in 1547. The picture, created around 1590 , hung in the Schütting , today's house of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce , has not survived and has only been handed down as an image because it was one of the templates that he contributed to the etchings of the chronicle by Wilhelm Dilich from 1603/04. In the Schütting he also created murals that were not preserved. Paintings of sea barrels have also come down to us.
Note: The municipality of Apen , where the painter may have come from, is the westernmost municipality in the Ammerland district in Lower Saxony .
