(15854) Numa is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on February 15, 1996 by the Italian astronomer Vincenzo Silvano Casulli at the Osservatorio Colleverde di Guidonia (IAU Code 596) in Guidonia Montecelio .

It was named after Numa Pompilius , the legendary second king of Rome , who expanded the Roman calendar from 10 to 12 months and thus laid the foundation for our current calendar.
