Christian of Oldenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christian von Oldenburg , known as the Crusader (* 12th century; † 1192 ), was the son of Count Christian I the Warrior of Oldenburg .

He did not have a number in the family trees of the Oldenburg Count House . Little is known about his work. The Rasteder Chronik reports that he should have owned a castle near Hatten . The chronicler Albert von Stade reports on the warlike battles of the Oldenburg counts after the death of Henry the Lion . It is assumed that these are the brothers Christian and Moritz . Moritz is given more attention in the history books and chronicles than his brother, which suggests that Christian could not develop in the shadow of his brother as he probably would have liked. Albert von Stade also reports that Christian took part in the Third Crusade under Friedrich Barbarossa and was murdered by Oldenburg officials after his return in 1192 at the instigation of his brother Moritz in Bergedorf near Ganderkesee . The Rasteder Chronicle interprets Moritz as a confidante.
