Christiane Baumgartner (* 1967 in Leipzig ) is a German artist .

life and work

Baumgartner lives in Leipzig. From 1988 to 1994 she studied graphics and book art at the Leipzig University of Graphic Art and Book Art. Her artistic medium is primarily print. Her woodcuts are particularly well known . For this purpose, she usually uses her own video recordings as a template in order to then implement them as a still in the form of a woodcut. Her woodcut 1 second became known , in which she converted one second of a video as 25 individual images into woodcuts. This work was also presented by the Museum der Bildenden Künste Leipzig in 2007 in the solo exhibition Momentan .

Teaching From 2014 to 2016, she was a substitute professor for artistic teaching in the artistic printing workshops of the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art.

Awards and grants In 2014 she received the Prix de Gravure Mario Avati of the Paris Académie des Beaux-Arts . In 2009 she received the Teresa Bulgarini Prize for her woodcuts, which thematize terms such as time, movement, speed and acceleration. In 2012 she was the first to receive the Vietnam Residence Scholarship from the Saxony Cultural Foundation and the Goethe Institute.

The artist's works can be found in over 50 international public collections such as the Albertina (Vienna) , Das Städel (Frankfurt), Kadist Art Foundation (Paris), Kunsthaus Zürich , Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig , Museum of Modern Art (New York), and Spendhaus (Reutlingen), Dresden State Art Collections , Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and Victoria and Albert Museum (London).
