Christiane Therese Gayer

Catharine Christiane Therese Gayer (born April 19, 1819 in Gotha ; † February 17, 1896 there ) was a German patroness of the Thuringian city ​​of Gotha.

Life

After the death of her parents (1846/1853), the daughter of a merchant lived in complete seclusion with her two sisters, one of whom was in need of care and very ill.

legacy

Gayer decreed in her will in 1895 that the city of Gotha should inherit all of its property and 320,000 marks. The sum of money is intended to benefit single, unmarried and needy women in their hometown. In 1899 another decree was fulfilled when her house at Schützenallee 10 was converted into a retirement home for 20 women. In the same year the “Therese Gayer Foundation” was founded. Their wealth in 1905 was 373,192 marks. In 1962 the building was expanded again to accommodate 58 people. In 1992 the after-work home was incorporated into the “Städtische Heime Gotha GmbH”.

  • The city of Gotha named Gayerstrasse near the Schmalen Rains after the benefactor.
