Christina E. Bannier

Christina E. Bannier (* 1974 as Christina E. Metz in Lich ) is a German economist and university professor . She has held the Chair of Banking & Finance at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen since 2016 .

Career

Bannier studied economics at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, where she obtained her diploma in 1999. She did her doctorate in 2002 at the University of Kassel and completed her habilitation (Venia Legendi in Economics and Business Administration) at the Goethe University in 2006 . During this time she spent research stays a. a. at the London School of Economics and Political Science .

In 2006, Bannier took over the position of head of the professorship for financial market theory at the Leibniz University in Hanover before she accepted a call to the Commerzbank endowed professorship for SME financing at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in 2007. From 2011 to 2012 she also took over the patronage of Commerzbank AG's financial competence program “Understandable Money”. From 2011 to 2013 she was also head of the finance department at the Frankfurt School. From 2013 to 2016 she was Professor of Corporate Finance at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and in 2016 accepted the professorship for Banking & Finance at Justus Liebig University in Giessen.

Bannier has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Clearstream Banking AG since 2018. Before that she was an adviser to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Hessian Ministry for Economy, Transport and Regional Development.

Bannier Research Fellow at the Center for Financial Studies in Frankfurt since 2013. She has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Business Economics (Springer) since 2016. Since 2017 she has been the spokesperson for the research network “Behavioral and Social Finance & Accounting” at JLU Giessen. In 2018, she was elected Managing Director of the Gießen Graduate Center for Social, Economic and Legal Sciences (GGS) at JLU.

Her current research is devoted to the areas of financial knowledge and advice, compliance as well as corporate social responsibility and ESG investing.
