Christina Schmidt (2019)

Christina Schmidt (* 1985 ) is a German journalist .

Career

Schmidt, born on the Baltic Sea, studied political science, sociology and philosophy in Berlin and Reykjavík and is a graduate of the ninth course of the Zeitenspiegel reportage school.

She works as a reporter in the “Reportage & Research” department of the Berlin taz and previously worked as a correspondent in the newspaper's capital city office.

Schmidt is currently doing research primarily on secret services and right-wing extremist networks, but also writes on other, primarily political, topics at home and abroad. Her research on the so-called “Hannibal” network, made up of right-wing extremist members with links to constitutional protection offices, the armed forces and the police , received particular attention .

Awards and nominations

In 2015 she was nominated for the Grimme Online Award with the project “Apropos Kosovo” .

In 2017 she and the photographer Maria Feck were awarded the Hansel Mieth Digital Prize for their report on the high suicide rate among young Greenlanders .

In 2018, together with Martin Kaul and Daniel Schulz , she received the “ Golden Hedgehog , Special Research Prize” from the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces for the text The Home Security Files .

In 2018 she became with the lyrics Greetings from Hanoi and What are they doing here? each nominated with co-authors for the German Reporter Award.

In 2019 she was voted Journalist of the Year in the “Team” category, with Schmidt named as the lead author. In 2018, a medium magazine jury voted them fourth among the journalists of the year in the “Team” category.

In 2019, she and her colleagues were nominated for the journalists' award “Long Breath” for reporting on right-wing extremism in the armed forces and security authorities.

In 2020, together with Sebastian Erb, Martin Kaul , Alexander Nabert and Daniel Schulz, she was nominated for the Nannen Prize in the "Investigation" category for researching Hannibal's shadow network .
