Christine Noll Brinckmann

Christine Noll Brinckmann (also: Christine N. Brinckmann ) (* 1937 in Shanghai ) is a film scholar . She was the first female professor of film studies in Switzerland and built up the film studies seminar at the University of Zurich .

biography

Christine Noll Brinckmann's parents emigrated from Germany to Shanghai in the 1920s, where her father, the doctor Dr. Kurt Noll, opened his own hospital. In 1949 the family returned to Germany due to the political changes in China, where Christine Noll Brinckmann graduated from high school in 1955.

After completing her studies, Christine Noll Brinckmann first taught literature at the Institute for British and American Studies at Frankfurt University , where she also studied film studies. In 1979 she spent a year as a visiting scholar in the Department of Cinema Studies at New York University . In the same year, she made her first experimental film The West Village Meat Market .

From 1989 to 2002 Christine Noll Brinckmann was full professor for film studies at the University of Zurich. She was the founder and head of the film studies seminar - a subject that had not previously existed at Swiss universities.

Christine Noll Brinckmann is editor of the book series Zürcher Filmstudien and co-editor of the magazine Montage AV .

The writer Ingrid Noll is the sister of Christine Noll Brinckmann.
