The first three steam locomotives of the HNJ Mb series were procured in 1931 by the Swedish private railway company Halmstad – Nässjö Järnvägsaktiebolag (HNJ) at Nydqvist och Holm in Trollhättan . In 1936 another three locomotives were delivered as the HNJ G12 series . They were intended for use by freight trains on the Halmstad – Nässjö railway line and on the extended HNJ network.

history

Based on the experience of the HNJ M series , Nydqvist och Holm and the private railway company Halmstad – Nässjö Järnvägsaktiebolag developed a three-cylinder freight locomotive with a 2'D wheel arrangement. With the serial numbers 1,880 to 1,182, Nydqvist och Holm built three locomotives with high tractive power and good running properties under the series designation Mb . The company numbers of these three locomotives are not known. With these locomotives, the company took over the transport of the important freight trains on the route between Halmstad and Nässjö.

HNJ G12

In 1932 the HNJ introduced new series designations. In the course of this renaming, the three existing locomotives were given the new designation G12 with the company numbers 42 to 44. A further three locomotives with the factory numbers 2.025 to 2.027 were purchased from the same supplier in 1936, classified under the company numbers G12 45 to 47 and on all lines of the HNJ used.

SJ E9

As part of the general nationalization of the railway , the HNJ, including all vehicles, became state property on July 1, 1945, and Statens Järnvägar took over management . There the six locomotives were assigned to the class SJ E9 and were given the company numbers E9 1757 to 1762 . All locomotives remained in service on their original HNJ routes. At the end of the 1950s, the steam locomotives were replaced by diesel locomotives and rail buses .

E9 1758 became a standby locomotive ( Swedish Beredskapslok ) in Borås in 1960 . All locomotives were scrapped in the mid-1970s.

SJ was so impressed by the performance of the series that in 1947 ten locomotives of almost the same type as the SJ E10 were ordered.
