The four steam locomotives of the HNJ M series were procured by the Swedish private railway company Halmstad – Nässjö Järnvägsaktiebolag (HNJ) in Germany in 1922 . They were intended for use by freight trains on the Halmstad – Nässjö railway line and on the extended HNJ network.

history

In 1922, the HNJ was able to buy four modern, three-cylinder freight locomotives with superheaters with the serial numbers 9.656 to 9.659 from Hanomag . With these locomotives, the company took over the transport of the important freight trains on the route between Halmstad and Nässjö , which had previously been carried by the older HNJ H series .

During the Second World War , the locomotives were fired with peat .

HNJ G10

In 1932 the HNJ introduced new series designations. In the course of this redesignation, three of the four locomotives were given the new designation G10 39 to 41 .

SJ E8

As part of the general nationalization of the railways , the HNJ and all vehicles became state property on July 1, 1945, and Statens Järnvägar took over management . There the locomotives were classified under the class SJ E8 and given the company numbers E8 1754 to 1756 . All three locomotives were stationed in Borås and were in use there until around the end of the 1960s. E8 1754 remained a standby locomotive ( Swedish Beredskapslok ). All three locomotives were scrapped in 1973.

HNJ Ma

The fourth locomotive of the delivery series, the M 38 , was converted in 1932 at Nydqvist och Holm in Trollhättan , based on the newly delivered HNJ Mb series freight locomotives, into a tank locomotive with a 1 'D 1' wheel arrangement in order to use it on the Vaggeryd – Jönköping railway line to be able to use them better. At the HNJ, the new HNJ Ma series was created for this locomotive at short notice .

HNJ T10

In the list of the new series designations of the HNJ, this HNJ Ma received the designation T10 38 in the same year .

SJ N4 1773

With the nationalization of the HNJ on July 1, 1945, the HNJ T10 38 passed into state ownership and was the only locomotive to be classified under the SJ N4 class , it was given the road number 1773. After that, the locomotive was in use in Jönköping until 1959 and followed suit in 1960 transferred to Borås for a period of time. There it remained in use until 1970, when it was parked again and scrapped in Malmö in 1972.
