Gerhard Knabe

Gerhard Knabe (born July 10, 1924 in Arnstadt ) is a former German trade unionist and politician ( SED ). He was chairman of the Suhl district board of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB).

Life

After attending primary school, Knabe learned the trade of toolmaker and worked in this trade. At the age of 18 he became a member of the NSDAP on September 1, 1942 , he was a member of the Arnstadt branch (Gau Thuringia).

After the end of the war in 1945, he held various positions in the FDGB. In 1946 he joined the SED. In 1953/54 Knabe acted as chairman of the Suhl district board of the FDGB, at times he was a member of the Suhl SED district leadership and a candidate for the office there.

Then he was an employee, from 1959 head of the organization / management department in the FDGB federal board. In May 1964 he became secretary of the SED party organization in the FDGB federal executive, which in 1971 was converted into an SED district leadership. Until 1989 he was first secretary of the SED district leadership of the central organs of the trade unions. In January 1990, an exclusion procedure was initiated against him by the extraordinary FDGB Congress.
