Horst Brandt (trade unionist)

Horst Brandt (born January 24, 1928 in Dietzhausen ) is a former German trade unionist . He was chairman of the Suhl district board of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB).

Life

Brandt, son of a working-class family, attended elementary school , completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and then worked in this profession. In 1948 he joined the FDGB and the SED . From 1949 to 1951 he was an instructor for the Suhl regional board of IG Metall , and from 1951/52 deputy head of department in the central board of IG Metall. From 1953 to 1955 he acted as chairman of the Suhl district board of IG Metall. Between 1955 and 1958 he completed his studies at the party college "Karl Marx" , which he graduated as a social scientist. From 1958 to 1962 he was again chairman of the district board of IG Metall Suhl. From 1962 to 1968 he worked as secretary and as deputy chairman of the FDGB district executive committee in Suhl. From 1968 to 1989 he was finally chairman of the FDGB district committee in Suhl. From 1971 to 1989 he was a member of the FDGB federal executive committee.

From 1958 to 1989 he was also a member of the SED district leadership in Suhl, and from 1968 to 1989 he was also a member of the secretariat of the district leadership. From November 1971 Brandt was also a member of the Suhl District Assembly .
