Parish Church of Christ the King

The Catholic Church of Christ the King is a parish church and a listed church building in Bredelar , a village in Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The parish belongs to the pastoral association Marsberg Süd in the dean's office Hochsauerland-Ost in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

The parish grew strongly towards the end of the 19th century, the main reason being the settlement of industrial plants. Industrial establishments such as the Zechitwerk and the iron foundry as well as the new train station favored the population growth. So after the First World War the desire for a church of their own arose and a church building association was founded, which in 1927 bought a suitable piece of land. However, due to the political situation and the Second World War, the project did not materialize. After the end of the war, many expellees, mainly from Silesia, settled in the Bredelar area and the number of Catholics rose sharply. The plans for the church were made by the Paderborn architect Josef Lucas from Paderborn . The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 12, 1946 and the foundation stone was laid on June 15, 1947. The first Catholic mass was celebrated on September 12, 1948.

When the choir was redesigned in 1968, the location of the tabernacle was relocated to the side aisle, and extensive renovations took place in 1980. The choir wall is a work by the sculptor Jürgen Suberg. In 1980 Nikolaus Bette created various windows in antique glass and lead as a free composition.

organ

The Walcker organ building company built a pipe organ with a mechanical play and stop action mechanism around 1947; the instrument has a manual.
