Nikolaus Bette (born December 7, 1934 in Bottrop ) is a German glass painter and painter .

Life

He attended secondary school in Bottrop until 1954 and then trained with the glass painter Wilhelm de Graaff in Essen-Werden . He received his drawing and painting training from Josef van Heekern, a painter and restorer in Essen-Werden. In 1962 and 1963 he attended the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg under Oskar Kokoschka , and in 1963 he was the first winner of the Kokoschka Prize of the City of Salzburg as part of the Summer Academy. In 1964 he attended the lithography school under Slavie Soucek in the same context . After completing his training in glass painting, he initially worked as a freelancer for de Graaff and from 1964 received independent orders in glass painting, wall painting and mosaic. In 1968 he took over the studio from Wilhelm de Graaff, who left for health reasons. Since then he has carried out a large number of orders, particularly for glass windows in churches in the dioceses of Paderborn , Hildesheim , Essen , Cologne , Trier , Fulda and Osnabrück . He also took part in numerous exhibitions and competitions on church art. Together with Anton Wendling , Wilhelm Buschulte , Josef Gesing , Georg Meistermann , Ludwig Schaffrath , Johannes Schreiter , Hubert Spierling and Erentrud Trost, he is one of the most famous glass painters of the 20th century in Germany. He lives in being-to-eat.
