Erentrud consolation
Erentrud Trost OSB (born March 7, 1923 in Paderborn , † April 14, 2004 in Varensell ) was a German glass painter and mosaicist .

Trost was born the daughter of a master butcher and had two sisters and three brothers. She attended the Michaelskloster grammar school in Paderborn . Because of its forced closure in World War II, she had to change to the Pelizaeus grammar school , where she graduated from high school in 1941. In 1942 she began studying medicine in Cologne and passed the Physikum in 1944 . After the 1st clinical semester, she was drafted into service as an anesthetic nurse in 1944.
In 1946 she joined the Varensell Abbey of the Benedictine Order and made her temporary profession in July 1953 and her perpetual profession three years later . From 1950 to 1952 she studied applied arts with Vinzenz Pieper at the Werkkunstschule in Münster . Art trips took her to Italy, France, England and the Netherlands. Since 1955 she was mainly active as an artist with the design of glass windows and mosaics - beginning with the construction of the Varensell Abbey Church, the entire interior of which was assigned to her. She remained a nun of the Benedictine Abbey of Varensell until her death in 2004.
In the Archdiocese of Paderborn she created a large number of glass windows and mosaics. Her work also includes designs for parament embroidery ; in her later years she turned to book illumination and created a. a. together with Lioba Munz an evangelist for the Minden Cathedral . A complete catalog of her works does not yet exist.
