history

The Catholics in the east of Bielefeld originally belonged to St. Jodokus . In 1905, at her request, the foundation stone for her own chapel was laid on the Elpke. The construction of this Lady Chapel took about a year and it was inaugurated on June 28, 1906. At the same time the Boniface Vicarie was established. Two years later a Catholic school was added.

Over the years and due to the influx of refugees after the Second World War, the premises of the community were insufficient. On January 1, 1956, the church council was able to buy a plot of land on Stieghorster Strasse for a new building. The foundation stone was laid on October 1st of the same year. At Pentecost 1957 that fell on the fourth day after the feast of St. Boniface, the church through the Paderborn Archbishop could Lorenz Jaeger dedicated to be.

On April 1, 1958, the vicariate was raised to an independent parish. Heinrich Kraft, who previously worked as a vicar in the community, was appointed the first pastor. In 1959 an organ was given to the parish. In 1960 the bells were consecrated, and at the end of the year glass windows were installed, designed by Sister Erentrud Trost from Varensell Abbey .

In 1965 Pastor Kraft was transferred, and Josef Weber came to the parish as his successor. In November 1966 the interior of the church was rebuilt in line with the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council . The altar has been moved closer to the worshipers and the altar steps have been removed.

On April 7, 1976 the construction of the community center, the Bonifatius House, began, which was inaugurated on November 5, 1977.
