Plant and history

The original cemetery was around the church, but was closed in 1795. The present cemetery was therefore rebuilt from 1795 to 1798 under Prince Franz east of the city center. In 1798 Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff built the morgue and the overseer's house. The buildings are designed as two-storey, plastered brick structures with reference to Renaissance forms and have volute gables . After a severe typhoid fever - epidemic of the cemetery in 1814 was extended to the south.

In the cemetery are the classicist graves of famous people from the 18th and 19th centuries. On the western wall of the cemetery are the graves of the poet Friedrich von Matthisson and the famous gardener family Schoch. Other well-known graves are those of the gardener family Eyserbeck, including Johann Friedrich Eyserbecks , and the master mason Friedrich Corte .

The cemetery is surrounded by a brick wall. On the north side there is an entrance designed in the style of classicism.
