Lars Evald Christoffer Taxell (born February 14, 1948 in Turku ) is a former Finnish politician who was Minister of Justice between 1979 and 1987 and chairman of the Swedish People's Party SFP (Svenska folkpartiet) from 1985 to 1990 . He was also Minister of Education between 1987 and 1990.

Life

Lars Evald Christoffer Taxell is the son of the politician Lars Erik Taxell , who was also chairman of the Swedish People's Party between 1956 and 1966. After attending school, he completed a degree in economics . He was political secretary from 1970 to 1971 and chairman of the youth organization of the Swedish People's Party from 1970 to 1972 before he was assistant to the economics faculty of Åbo Akademi from 1973 to 1975 . In the elections on September 21 and 22, 1975 he was elected for the first time for the Swedish People's Party SFP (Svenska folkpartiet) as a member of the Reichstag (Eduskunta) and belonged to it until March 21, 1991.

Taxell took over the office of Justice Minister (Oikeusministeri) for the first time on May 26, 1979 in the Koivisto II cabinet and held this ministerial office from February 19, 1982 to May 6, 1983 also in the Sorsa III cabinet and between May 6, 1983 and May 30, 1983. April 1987 also in the Sorsa IV cabinet . During this time, he replaced Pär Stenbäck on June 9, 1985 as chairman of the Swedish People's Party SFP (Svenska folkpartiet) and remained in this position for five years until June 10, 1990, after which Ole Norrback succeeded him. In this function he was also the top candidate of the SFP in the elections on March 15 and 16, 1987 , which received 152,597 votes (5.3 percent) and 13 seats in the Reichstag. In the subsequently formed Holkeri cabinet , he took over the office of Minister of Education (Opetusministeri) on April 30, 1987 and remained in this ministerial office before he was replaced by Ole Norrback on June 13, 1990.

After leaving the government and the Reichstag, Christoffer Taxell took on various functions in business and was, among other things, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Partek (Paraisten Kalkki Oy) from 1990 to 2002 and Chairman of the Association of Finnish Industry EK from 2005 to 2006 (Elinkeinoelämän keskusliitto) . His marriage to Rachel Nygård-Taxell in 1974 resulted in two children.
