Christoph Johann Sigmund Zwinger

Christoph Johann Sigmund Zwinger (born July 14, 1744 in Nuremberg ; † June 18, 1813 there ) was a German painter, draftsman and etcher.

Life

Christoph Johann Sigmund Zwinger was a son of the Nuremberg gold beaters and later red beer brewer Conrad Zwinger (1688–1765) and his second wife Magdalena Barbara Alberti († 1772). He was a student of Johann Justin Preissler and then taught at the municipal drawing school in Nuremberg. In 1769 he became director of this school and director of the painting academy. He was an important teacher of the perspective sign.

In 1769, Zwinger married the daughter Anna Felicitas (1740–1807) of his former teacher, the Nuremberg painter Johann Justin Preissler. The couple had their son Gustav Philipp Zwinger (1779–1819), painter, draftsman, etcher and lithographer in Nuremberg.
