Christoph Kalb

Christoph Kalb (born January 17, 1895 in Kassel , † January 4, 1980 in Giesel ) was a German teacher and cantor .

Life

Christoph Kalb attended elementary school and then the preparatory in Fritzlar as a pre-school for the teachers' seminar . In 1916 he took up his first position as a teacher in Roßbach in southern Hesse, before he was transferred to Giesel in 1918 as a 23-year-old young teacher. He stayed there until he finally retired in 1960 after teaching for 42 years. From 1918 until his death in 1980, Kalb was also an organist at the parish church of St. Laurentius . In 1954 he was given the title of cantor . As early as 1920 he founded the theater group "Thalia" in Giesel.

In total, Kalb was the main teacher for 42 years and the cantor in Giesel for 62 years. In addition, he was also active as a composer, poet and theater person. He was also a well-known landscape painter in the region .

Honors

For his services, Kalb was awarded the Letter of Honor from the State of Hesse in February 1975 and the Letter of Honor from the Neuhof community in December of the same year .

Street naming

Kleine Schulstrasse, which ran past his former home, was renamed after him to “Christoph-Kalb-Strasse” in 1985 on the occasion of his 90th birthday by the council of Neuhof.

To celebrate its 110th birthday in 2005 which received community center named "in Gieselmann Christoph Calf House ".
