particularities
Erected with great personal contribution by the village community .

The Christoph-Kalb-Haus is a community center in the Neuhof district of Giesel in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda and is located at Laurentiusstraße 34.

The new building was erected between 1995 and 1997 and was intended to form a new meeting place in the center of the village. The community center was built on the site of the two former primary schools .

From the old 2-class elementary school, which was built in 1893 and demolished in 1966, there are no more parts of the building apart from the filled well. Parts of the elementary school built for this purpose in 1966 (yellow part of the building) have been preserved in today's parts of the building, as it was an extension (white parts of the building).

history

On May 6, 1893, the Ministry of Spiritual, Educational and Medicinal Affairs in Cassel submitted the ministerial design for a new school building southeast of the parish church on Laurentiusstrasse and the corner of Schulstrasse in Giesel to the Royal District Building Inspectorate in Fulda. On September 30, 1895, the royal builder Ludwig Hoffmann from Fulda presented the building drawing, which had been coordinated with the community, to the government in Cassel for the property next to the rectory and the parish church (today's location of the community center), where the old school homestead is also being built has been.

The Gieseler elementary school built in 1966 with an attic as a porch of the former break hall (today the entrance is located backwards - center of the picture)

In 1966, under Mayor Leonhard Glotzbach, a new three-class elementary school with a teacher's house was built. The planner was the architect Sigmund Gütter from Lehnerz , who built a new, contemporary school facility after the old elementary school built in 1895 was demolished.

In 1973 the two-class elementary school in town was closed as a result of the school reform in Hesse in favor of the new "Schloßschule" school. Giesel has not had a school since 1973. The elementary school was attached to the castle school in Neuhof as a primary school. The secondary schools are also located at the Neuhof school location and in the nearby city of Fulda.

Conversion to a community center

The former
elementary school (left), which was converted into a kindergarten in 1973 , was expanded in 1995 to include the Christoph-Kalb-Haus (right)

The now vacant school building with an externally attached teacher's house in the west had to be put to new use. On the former ground floor of the elementary school there was a roofed playground and the school toilets as well as the staircase to the two classrooms and a third classroom (which was used as a gymnasium at times) divided by movable partitions. In the following years, extensions were made again and again.

Under Mayor Karl Heimüller and Mayor Karl Schneider, the basement was converted in 1975. A hall for approx. 100 people was set up as a village community room and a service room for the mayor with a foyer and a kindergarten was set up on the upper floor in the former classrooms. The former direct access from the school yard via a stairwell was separated by a foyer and a new toilet facility. The kindergarten access was re-created on the mountain side.

Under Mayor Martin Hohmann and Mayor Karl-Heinz Block, the foundation stone for the new community center was laid on August 4, 1995 with a new hall extension including kitchen on the upper floor and on the ground floor with club rooms for the music association "Heimatklänge Giesel", the reservist comradeship and the ☺ " Association "established with great personal contribution of the population. The inauguration took place on February 22, 1997. The responsible architect was Volkmar Hubert from the neighboring houseleek.

Renaming to Christoph-Kalb-Haus

In May 2005 the community center was given a name. On January 4, 2005, the 25th anniversary of the death of Christoph Kalb was celebrated. In recognition of his services in and around Giesel, it was named Christoph-Kalb-Haus.
