Wengerod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wengerod or Westerode desert is located in the district of Witzenhausen in the Werra-Meißner district in Hesse .

location

The former place was about 5.5 kilometers southeast of Witzenhausen and one kilometer southeast of Werleshausen in the Werra valley of the western Eichsfeld . The Göttingen – Bebra railway now runs through the desert.

history

Wengerod probably existed from the 13th to the 14th century. In the first written mention of the year 1562 it was already desolate when it came to the division and auctioning of the forest and the fields between the Lords of Hanstein . The landlords were the von Hanstein family , who lived in the neighboring Hanstein Castle .

In the 19th century the parcel boundaries for 3 to 5 larger courtyards and some smaller courtyards could still be determined. The corridor reached in the south to the Werra, in the east to the Wolfsberg, in the north-west to the Dietrichsgraben and in the north-east far up to the Höheberg . The following corridors are still known: Wengerod, Pfingstrasen, In der Aue, Oberfeld and Lache, Osterkopf and Sunder.

Through the exchange of territory according to the Wanfried Agreement in 1945, the local situation, together with neighboring Werleshausen, moved from the Eichsfeld district of Heiligenstadt to the Hessian district of Witzenhausen .
