geography

Extension and location

Lehnerz is about 3.3 km (as the crow flies ) northeast of the city center of Fulda on the northwest slope of the Rauschenberg ( 471.3  m above sea  level ), at about 300 to 360  m altitude (town center 334  m ); On the Rauschenberg, which largely belongs to the neighboring community of Petersberg to the south-southeast, there is a lookout tower. The small Lehnerzbach flows west of the village. The area north of Lehnerz and belonging to its 6.67 km² area is called Im Grund and is traversed by the Lehnerzgraben. The Lehnerzberg is located northwest of Im Grund as the southern flank of the Fulda-Haune-Tafelland . The district of Lehnerz also includes an area of around 3 km² in the Michelsrombacher Wald (state forest of Fulda-Nord ), which is connected to the rest of the district by a narrow corridor. The highest point of the district is on the Mühlberg ( 435.2  m ) whose southern foothills are the Hummelskopf with the telecommunications tower Hummelskopf , and the lowest is in the Grund ( 297  m ).

Neighborhoods

Neighboring towns are the district of Dietershan in the north, Steinau in the northeast , Almendorf and Stöckels in the east, the core of the Petersberg community in the south-southeast , the inner-city district of Nordend in the southwest and the Niesig district in the west .

climate

The climate in Lehnerz is slightly cooler and has more rainfall than that of Fulda. The annual average is 8.0 ° C and it rains 736.7 mm. The coldest month is January with -0.3 ° C, the warmest July with 17.0 ° C (average 1971-2000). The wettest month is February with 43.9 mm, the wettest month in July with 79.0 mm (average 1971-2000). The sun shines 1455.4 hours a year. The month with the least sunshine is December with 29.5 hours, the most sunshine is July with 205.9 hours. This means that the sun shines around 100 hours longer in Lehnerz than in downtown Fulda. This is largely due to the fact that Lehnerz is elevated and the sun almost always shines there when there is fog in the city center. This difference is particularly evident in the winter months.

history

Lehnerz was an independent municipality until 1972. Landmarks are the new church, consecrated in 1977, and the Grillenburg, built in 1887, which today houses a restaurant and hotel. It lies on the so-called "Esparküppel". In front of the Grillenburg there was a baroque pavilion on the hill. The Leipziger Hof, now a restaurant, is located on Leipziger Strasse, a former trade route between Frankfurt and Leipzig. The " White Tower " stood on this . The former watch tower is no longer preserved today.

Lehnerz is mentioned for the first time in a letter of inheritance from 1541 as "Lenters" = court of Lentrich or Caspar Ledenther. From 1802 to 1957 it belonged to the cathedral parish , from 1957 to 1963 it was a local chaplaincy , from 1963 to 1976 a parish curate and since 1976 it has been its own parish. The first church was built in 1923 on what is now the parking lot between the school and the Leipziger Hof and expanded from 1926 to 1928. After a new church was built in 1976/77, the old church was demolished. The cemetery, which is located on a small, built-up hill on the northeastern edge of Lehnerz, was laid out in the 1950s. The former mayor Ferdinand Reinhard, who died in 1953, was the first person to be buried in the cemetery. The cemetery hall (1981/82) and the Marienkapelle (built in the 1950s) are located on the site. Before that, the Lehnerzer were buried on Frauenberg.

The last place of execution in the city of Fulda was at the “Rabenstein”, about 200 meters east of today's cemetery. The last execution took place on November 21, 1856. An ancient burial mound from the Bronze Age is located northeast of the village.

On August 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Lehnerz was incorporated into the city of Fulda by state law as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

societies

The TSV 1965 Lehnerz e. V. is the district's sports club. With its 530 members, it looks after around 150 young people in the football department and 220 in the gymnastics department and thus works for popular sports. At the same time, it promotes community life within the district. The football department, which made it to the Hessenliga in the 2012/13 season, is nationally successful.

The volunteer fire brigade has been established in the village for over 75 years. In 2005 she moved into the Fulda-Nord fire station together with the Fulda-Niesig volunteer fire department. Since then, the operations department has consisted of 60 fire brigade members and a youth fire brigade with 20 young people.

Infrastructure and traffic

In Lehnerz there are several restaurants, a church, a cemetery, a bank, several grocery stores, a florist, several bakers and medical practices. The federal highway 27 leads west past the village and crosses under the federal highway 7 at the junction Fulda-Nord . Lehnerz is connected to the Fulda core city by the city bus route 6 Bronnzell - Marbach .

Lehnerz's traffic systems are often overloaded due to insufficient expansion. Especially the rush hour traffic in the direction of the Rhön and in the northern part of the district leads through Lehnerz. On the three main roads in Lehnerz (north, south, east and west), an average of 18,000 vehicles per day. In addition, Lehnerz is between two main traffic axes, B 27 and A 7 (both in north-south direction). Together they use around 68,000 cars a day. There are no noise barriers. During rush hour, the noise pollution is well above the EU limit values almost everywhere in the village.
