The Mühlberg near Fulda - Dietershan in the north Hessian district of Fulda is 435.2  m above sea level. NHN high ridge of the Fulda-Haune-Tafelland . The southern branch of the elevation belonging to the East Hesse region is the Hummelskopf (see  below ).

The Mühlberg is located in the Haune plateau in the north of the urban area of Fulda . It rises between the Hünfelder districts Michelsrombach , Oberrombach and commander in the north, the Petersberg district Marbach in the east-northeast and the Fulda districts Dietershan the southeast, Lehnerz in the south-southeast, Niesig in the south, Gläserzell in the south-southwest and Kammer cell in the southwest.

Natural allocation

The Mühlberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35), in the main unit Fulda-Haune-Tafelland (355) and in the subunit Haune-Hochflächen (355.3) to the natural area Rombach-Hochflächen (355.30), with its landscape facing east to the Upper Haunetal (355.310 ) belonging to the natural area Haunetal (355.31) , to the south in the main unit Fuldaer Senke (352) in the subunit Fulda Basin (352.1) and to the west in the subunit Kämmerzell-Hersfelder Fuldatal (355.2) in the natural area Kämmerzell -Asbacher Fuldatal (355.20) falls.

Mountain height and foothills

The height of the 435.2  m high Mühlberg is usually given as 435  m , which refers to the uppermost contour line labeled with this height , which is recorded on topographic maps . A trigonometric point at a height of 434  m is also marked on it east of the summit at a branch of a forest path from the L  3378 (see  below ) . The southern foothills of the Mühlberg are formed by the Hummelskopf with the height information on topographic maps 416.6 (near the Hummelskopf telecommunications tower ) and, about 600 m south of this point, 416.2  m .

Gemstorm

The Edelsturm (also called Kämmerzeller Warte ), which was built around 1400, stands on a south-western slope of the Mühlberg about 2.5 km (as the crow flies) from the summit at about 305 m height . The round tower made of natural stone once served as a watchtower far outside the city wall of Fulda and is about 10 m high. An outside inspection of the tower surrounded by the agricultural area is possible.

Hummelskopf telecommunications tower

Is in the transition region from the Miihlberg Hummel head near one to 416.6  m lying height forest road intersection of 133 m high telecommunications tower Hummel head ( of) German radio tower . The reinforced concrete tower serves as an antenna carrier for the Fulda / Hummelskopf transmitter for directional radio and for broadcasting digital radio ( DAB + ) for the Fulda region.

The Romansstein is located about 600 m west-southwest of the tower .

Shooting range, earth dump, Waldheim

About 1 km (as the crow flies) south-southeast of the telecommunications tower on the L  3378 (see  below ) is the site of a former shooting range ( ), which is currently used as a Lehnerz landfill . Next door on the street is a Rhön Club forest home .

Traffic and walking

The eastern highlands of the Mühlberg near the summit cross the federal motorway 7 (between the junctions Hünfeld / Schlitz in the north and Fulda -Nord in the south) and the state road  3378 ( Michelsrombach - Lehnerz ); a freeway parking lot on the south-east flank of the mountain near the summit region (direction Kassel- Fulda) is called Hummelskopf . For example, starting at the L 3378, the mountain can be hiked. By the direction in Marbach and Dietershan directed east face of Mühlberg leads viewed from the summit region of the other side of A 7, in 1991 and 7375 m long shared Dietershantunnel of Hanover-Würzburg high-speed railway .
