Harmerz is a district of the East Hessian city ​​of Fulda .

The district is located southwest of the city center in the Giesel valley in the foreland of the Vogelsberg . The highest elevation in the district is the 345 m high Sauerberg.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1160, although it was settled very early. Several barrows that were found in the district suggest this .

The place name was 1441 "Harmudes", 1510 "Harmys", 1556 "Harmes", 1589 "Harmets", 1605 "Harmeß", 1708 "Harmes", 1797 "Harmut" and from 1811 "Harmerz"

Nonnenrod is a single farm and, as early as 1650, the former Vorwerk of the Johannesberg Benedictine monastery in the district of Hamerz.

Reorganization

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Harmerz was incorporated into the independent city of Fulda at the same time as other suburban municipalities on August 1, 1972 by virtue of state law , but returned to the Fulda district on July 1, 1974.

Catholic Church

When it was first mentioned in 1160, it belonged to the Fulda Monastery and in 1787 to the Fulda Abbey in the Fulda Centoberamt and was assigned to the Johannesberg Provostry .

In 1510, Harmerz belonged to the parish of St. Johannes as well as the towns of Ziegel, Zirkenbach , Zell and Istergiesel . Today it belongs to the diocese of Fulda .

On September 28, 1967, the municipality of Harmerz was given a coat of arms with the following blazon : In red under a white shield head with a black cross, a silver pot helmet with a gold bar pierced horizontally by a silver sword with a gold handle.
