Henry Pybus Bell-Irving , OC , DSO , OBE , OBC (born January 21, 1913 in Vancouver , † September 21, 2002 there ) was a Canadian entrepreneur and officer . From 1978 to 1983 he was Vice Governor of the Province of British Columbia .

biography

Bell-Irving received his education on Vancouver Island and in Scotland . In 1932 he broke off his studies at the University of British Columbia after a year and instead pursued a military career. During the Second World War he was stationed in Europe. He commanded a company of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in Sicily and Italy . He later took over command of the 10th Canadian Infantry Brigade, which played an important role in the liberation of the Netherlands .

After the war ended, Bell-Irving returned to Vancouver and joined the family-owned real estate company Bell-Irving Insurance Agencies , of which he became president. In 1972 the company merged with AE LePage . From 1974 he was Chairman of the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and President of the Canadian Association of Real Estate Agents. Governor General Jules Léger swore in Bell-Irving on March 18, 1978 as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. He held this representative office until July 15, 1983.
