John William Fordham Johnson

John William Fordham Johnson (born November 28, 1866 in Spalding , England , † November 28, 1938 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian manager . From 1931 to 1936 he was Lieutenant Governor of the Province of British Columbia .

biography

Johnson completed an apprenticeship as an accountant . In 1888 he emigrated to the United States and settled in Portland , Oregon , where he worked in a branch of the Bank of British Columbia . Ten years later he moved to Vancouver , the headquarters of the bank. In 1900 he moved to the BC Sugar Company and rose up the hierarchy until he became president of the company in 1920.

Johnson was also president of several other companies and was one of the most influential people in Vancouver. Governor General Lord Bessborough sworn in on August 1, 1931, as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. He held this representative office until May 1, 1936. Health problems forced him to resign.
