Judith Guichon

Judith Isabel Guichon , OBC (* 1947 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian cattle farmer and politician. From 2012 to 2018 she was the lieutenant governor of the province of British Columbia and as such represented the head of state, Queen Elizabeth II , at the provincial level.

biography

Guichon grew up on a farm in Hawkesbury in the province of Ontario on. In 1972 she moved to British Columbia and, together with her husband Lawrence Guichon, ran a ranch in the Nicola Valley that has been in the family since 1878 and has around 1,400 animals. As the first cattle breeder in the province, she introduced holistic management methods that promote sustainability by protecting the natural environment. Guichon was involved in numerous environmental and nonprofit organizations, including 4-H and the British Columbia Pastureland Conservation Association . From 2010 to 2012 she was President of the BC Cattlemen's Association , the cattle breeders' association. She was also a member of the British Columbia's Task Force on Endangered Species.

Guichon is the mother of four children. Her first husband died in a motorcycle accident in 2003. She later married Bruno Mailloux. On the advice of Prime Minister Stephen Harper , she was appointed lieutenant governor of British Columbia and on November 1, 2012 , she was appointed to this representative office by Governor General David Johnston .
